Scoutmaster's Minute

6 October 2004

Hello friends of troop 41-

Thank you to all who came to the Court of Honor last night. The scouts did an amazing job with merit badges and rank advancement over the summer, and I am very proud of them, and proud to be associated with this troop. More importantly, they should be very proud of themselves!

Even more than merit badges, rank advancement, or success at district events, I am very proud of the attitude that our scouts have. We strive to be welcoming and accepting of all, and the cooperation and friendliness of the troop is amazing to watch. The word of troop 41 is getting around, and I hear feedback from various people of how much the troop reflects the scout oath and laws. My goal for the coming year is to maintain that spirit as we grow in people and activities.

Next weekend we will be camping at Ockanickon, to assist with the Lenape District Webelos Weekend. Not only a chance to camp and a service to the district, this is an excellent opportunity for the Webelos Scouts in the district to get to know us. Let's put our best foot forward, and show the packs what we can do!

Coming November 12-14, we will be camping at Camp Tuckahoe, near Gettysburg, and doing the various hikes around the town and battlefield. This is always a great trip, and the weather should be comfortably crisp by then! I'd like to have a good number of adult leaders on that trip, as we tend to split up and take different walks, depending on where individual scouts have already been.

In closing, this is my first "Scoutmaster Minute" for the website. While I have been filling in for Mr. Masi for the last few months, I did not feel that I was the "real" Scoutmaster, and was hesitant to speak for the leaders, and the troop, here. I'd like to take the opportunity to say how much we all miss Mr. Masi, and hope that he will find some time to stay involved with the troop in some capacity. Like many of you, my family came to troop 41 because of Scott. His enthusiasm and scout spirit is unmatched, and he is, quite frankly, the best scouter I have known. We certainly miss his experience and leadership (if not his jokes), and we should all thank him for his efforts in starting and guiding the troop that we have today. Thank you, Scott.

As always, if you have any questions, comments, or problems, please do not hesitate to contact me.
