Scoutmaster's Minute
November 25, 2003
Good Day All:
As I look back over this past weekend's campout, I am
having a hard time thinking of too much that did not go
extremely well. The weather was very cooperative, and we
were able to hike the Gettysburg Historic Trails in short
sleeves for most of the day. Our new tents looked really
sharp - all lined up and spaced evenly. The scouts did a
great job with the meals that they prepared. The leaders
(we actually had 6 adults on this trip) all ate well and
were able to enjoy themselves, too. We hope to have some
pictures up on the web site soon - so keep checking!
I am continually amazed by the cooperation of the scouts
in this troop. For the most part, they all worked together
to tackle whatever task was before them. From the initial
camp set-up well after dark on Friday, to waking up on
Saturday morning when the stars were still out, to the
cooking and clean-up after meals (OK, so we do have a
little bit of work to get the clean-up to be a bit more
organized), to the Scouts' own service and breaking camp on
Sunday, they helped each other whenever they could. So, to
all of the Scouts - I want you to be proud of yourselves
because you are almost 2/3's of the way there!
What I need for everyone to do for me is to let me know
ASAP which portions of the Gettysburg Historic Trails patch
they have completed but have not yet received. I do know
what you qualified for on this trip, but I may not be aware
of work you have done in prior troops or on prior trips. I
would like to be able to order the patches and segments and
have them for the December Court of Honor. Speaking of the
Court of Honor; any scout who needs a Scoutmaster
conference, please see me and let me know. In addition, all
those scouts needing a Board of Review should speak with
Mrs. Thompson as soon as possible.
Be on the lookout for details regarding the Family Holiday
Dinner/gathering/party that we will be having the same
night as the Court of Honor. I know that the Committee has
been hard at work planning this event and they'll need
everyone's help in order to pull it off smoothly.
Also, please remember that we will need some Scouts in
uniform at Church this coming Sunday (11/30) to help
collect the Scouting for Food bags after both services.
Maybe some of you who did not sell any popcorn or help out
with the Church Sales can try to make an appearance and
help out on Sunday. (However, that's not to say that those
scouts who did sell popcorn shouldn't help out also.)
According to Connie Miller, the Church has given us the
go-ahead for Darin's Eagle ceremony on Sunday, December
28th. Official invitations were mailed out yesterday, so
you should be getting them soon. If you have any family
members visiting for the Christmas Holiday that you would
like to bring along, please do so. In addition, Darin was
asked by the Buckingham Township Board of Supervisors to
attend their December 10th Township meeting to receive an
official proclamation and commendation. All Troop 41 Scouts
and families who would like to attend are welcome to do so.
This is not an official troop event, so participation is
strictly optional, but those scouts who do attend should be
in full Class-A uniform. The meeting begins at 7:30 PM on
Dec. 10.
Well, I think that's it for now, but if you have any
questions or concerns, please let me know. And please -
everyone have a truly happy and safe Thanksgiving
Holiday!
Yours in Scouting and Friendship,
L. Scott Masi
