Scoutmaster's Minute

24 March 2004>

Good evening all (OK, actually good morning since I am writing this at 1AM):

I would first like to say thank you to everyone who helped to make tonight's Court of Honor and Parent Meeting the great success that it was. I know it seemed a little bit choppy at times, but we had a lot of ground to cover due to our having to cancel last weeks' meeting. I think we made a good impression on the scouts who were visiting from Pack 172 and we should find out soon if any of them would like to join our troop.

In particular, I'd like to thank the following people:

  1. The Scherr family for putting out quite a spread so that everyone could have a chance to meet and greet after the meeting while snacking on some delicious cookies and other baked goods. I'm not sure if anyone else made anything, but if you did, thank you as well.
  2. Margie Anderson for putting together the Scout's progress notebooks. I do want to add a personal note here - After recently going through the process of applying for Eagle with Darin, it became clear that it does make good sense to keep everything in one place in a safe location at your home. We had been keeping our record cards in a notebook like that for years and it helped out immensely. (Believe it or not, I still have all of my personal records in the same notebook and they are probably at least 10 years old by now.lol)
  3. Peri Thompson for so expertly performing her duties as advancement chair. This is a tough job and she has been working very hard to try to keep all of the scout's advancement data up to date.
  4. The group of Committee Members (Peri, Connie, Trish, Sandy, and Margie) who took the time before the meeting tonight to meet with the two scouts who needed Boards of Review.
  5. Ken Grob, who decided to come on board as a new Assistant Scoutmaster. We can always use more help from qualified adult leaders who truly believe in the program.
  6. I hope I haven't missed anyone, but if you helped out consider yourself thanked as well.
I also want to congratulate our newly elected youth leaders:
  1. Sam Folsom our new Senior Patrol Leader.
  2. Darin Masi, who was selected by Sam to be the ASPL
  3. Jeff Scherr the new Patrol Leader of the Viking Patrol
  4. Chris Anderson who will be continuing as the Patrol Leader of the Popeye Patrol
And finally (ok almost finally), I wanted to say thank you to everyone who turned in your FOS cards and donations. We are well on our way to becoming a Gold Card Unit (although we are not there yet) so if you still have your pledge card, please get it turned in to me as soon as possible.

And of course I would like to extend another warm Troop 41 welcome to our new families from Pack 170 - the Culpepper's, the Connor's, and the Schneps'.

As always, if you have any questions, comments, or problems, please do not hesitate to contact me.
