Scoutmaster's Minute

Good Day All:

Well, I hope that everyone (OK most of you) is/are enjoying their day off. However, there are a few events on the horizon that we really need to be thinking of.

1) Ski trip this coming weekend!!!! This trip is shaping up to be a phenomenal time. We have mostly the older scouts signed up as of right now - in fact all but one of our 13 and older boys will be there. We still have some room, so if you are interested call me right away.

2) The Swim-O-Ree is coming up on March 1st. This is a Monday night and will take the place of our Tuesday night meeting. I will need to get everyone signed up this Tuesday, so please come to the meeting knowing whether you will make it or not. This is a fun night and, being a small troop, we will be able to have each scout participate in a number of the competitions. This event runs from about 6 to 9 at either William Tenent High School or Log College Middle School. I will have the exact time and location as we get closer to the event. We may be able to car-pool, so for those of you who need rides, let one of the leaders know and we'll try to work something out. Uniform for this event will be swim-trunks and your Class "B" T-shirt. We need full participation for this - so let's all try to come out and show your support for Troop 41.

3) The Council-wide Camporee (held approx. every 4 years) will be held April 23-25 at the Middletown Grange Fair Grounds. This is a great event to meet scouts from all over the county and to participate in events that you might not otherwise be able to try. I need a count of those who will be attending by Tuesday's meeting. Permission slips and money will be due sometime in March, but since I need to register and pay this week (we are talking about an event with close to 1500 participants, so we need an accurate count early to be able to order patches and supplies), I need to know who will be attending.

4) Don't forget our unit elections are coming up on March 16. It's not too early to start thinking about who you'd like to see lead our unit forward. Try to think about those scouts who possess leadership qualities that would be appropriate for a troop or patrol position.

5) Summer Camp - yes I know it seems early, but in order to secure the best site and have plenty of room, I need to have your $25.00 deposit in (remember it was actually due a few weeks ago..). The permission slip is available on the troop web site www.troop-41.org.

As usual, if anyone has any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me..
