Scoutmaster's Minute

9 Jan 2004

Good Afternoon everyone!

I trust that everyone is having a great new year thus far. What I wanted to do was just bring you all up to date on the plans for the next month or so, along with providing you with permission slips for upcoming events.

The first event which is on our calendar is the Klondike Derby to be held at Camp Ockanickon on Saturday, January 31. The boys decided that they would like to camp out over the entire weekend and we have a cabin reserved for that purpose. Although we have reserved this cabin, any boys who would like to sleep outside in tents should be able to do so. I have attached a permission slip for this event.

We are also scheduling Sunday, February 8 for our Scout Sunday service at the New Britain Baptist Church. Please let me know if the 8:30 or the 11:00 AM service is more convenient. Once we select the service, I will be looking for scout volunteers to act as greeters, take the offering, and do the two readings. Please let me know by next Tuesday which is most convenient for you so that a decision can be made. Full Class-A uniform will be required for this event.

The next event will be our Troop Family ski trip in February. We will be skiing Saturday and Sunday at Jack Frost Mountain and staying in and around a cabin that was built by Mr. Miller. Families are encouraged to attend this event as well. There should be enough room at the cabin for any fathers that would like to join us. However, for mothers and siblings (and dads who prefer the cushiness of a hotel), we encourage you to contact Scott Miller directly to get a list of available lodging. The permission slip for this event is also attached. Please be careful when filling this out as it is critical that we know exactly what each person is paying for. For this reason, too, we ask that each participant (whether it be a scout, parent, or sibling) fill out one form for themselves. We need to do this in order to purchase all of our tickets together to qualify for the group rate.

And the last item of importance is the permission slip for Summer Camp. I know that it may seem early for this, but we need to know who will be going so that we can make arrangements for the correct number of spots at camp. We also need to know which adults will be attending. There is a sliding scale for payment so be aware of the due dates as listed on the permission slip. At the Committee's request, each of the figures has been padded with enough extra so that each boy attending will get 4 additional Troop 41 Class B T-Shirts. This will be their uniform for most of the day, so it seemed most logical to ensure that each scout has enough.

As usual, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or problems.

Yours in Scouting,

L. Scott Masi
